RBC wins to capture first Meet of Champions title in 18 years

The members of the Red Bank Catholic girls cross-country team have had this day on their minds for a long tIme.

“Ever since last year when we left the Meet of Champions after finishing second we have thought about coming back this year and winning,” said RBC senior Mary Kate McNamara. “It’s pretty much been our minds every single day since then.”

No 1 ranked RBC, fueled by that heartbreaking seven point loss to Randolph at the M of C last year, received some key late race surges from its pack and finally captured that elusive title, edging No. 2 Hillsborough, 88-95 at the 43rd NJSIAA/Star-Ledger/M-F Athletic Meet of Champions on Saturday at Holmdel Park. Ridgewood was third with 142.
